Importing Japanese Used Cars Into Fiji
WHAT YOU CAN IMPORT
- A vehicle that can pass roadworthiness certification (CoRW or CoF).
- You cannot transfer the ownership of the car for 5 years.
- You can import used cars up to 8 years old.
HOW MUCH IT WILL COST
- Import Duty (Fiscal) = 27% or $5,550 per unit, whichever is greater
- Excise Duty = 15%
- VAT = 12.5%
- $7 for permission for each trip with an unregistered vehicle to your residence or LTA office.

- Deregistration Certificate (Japanese version w/ English translation)
- Insurance
- ID
WHAT MUST BE DONE
- Fill out registration form.
- Take registration form to an Insurer to get an TPP (Third Party Policy).
- Present your registration form and insurance to the Licensing Office and pay $7 for temporary permission to drive from the wharf to a LTA (Land Transport Authority) office.
- Pay duty and tax at the Customs Office and drive to LTA office.
- Register your car:
- Make an appointment with the LTA for inspection of your vehicle.
- Present the vehicle at a LTA office for inspection.
- Provide a valid third party insurance policy of the vehicle.
- Provide a Certificate of Road Worthiness (CoRW) or Certificate of Fitness (CoF).
- Provide Proof of Ownership of the vehicle.
- Provide original and translated cancellation certificates (Deregistration Certificate) for secondhand vehicles.
- Pay the prescribed fee for registration.
- Obtain receipt, registration label and registration certificate from LTZ.
